For country music superstar Randy Travis and his wife Elizabeth, Maui has a charm all its own. "We've traveled the world and Maui has a charm that is hard to find. The people, the traditional music, the art, the weather -- we just love it."
This 2,800 sq ft house, conveniently located in Maui on the hillside above Kaanapali Resort, has been designed with the relaxed romantic tropical Maui lifestyle in mind. Hidden between a lava rock wall and a screen of palm trees and tropical foliage, this spacious multi-level cedar and redwood home invites relaxation.
This beautiful multi-level home also features beautiful tropical landscaping, a private atrium courtyard off the master bathroom, and a private courtyard off the dining room with a hand inlaid tile mosaic entitled "Blue Dolphins" by world-renowned marine artist Robert Lyn Nelson
The master bedroom, the living room, and a game room open onto terraced decking, surfaced in terra cotta tiles, surrounding a sixteen-by-thirty foot pool. Neat lines of cobalt blue tiles edge each terraced step, a pleasant graphic accent that complements the blue cushions of aqua deck lounges invitingly arranged around the pool. Adjacent to the pool, an above ground six-by-seven foot hot springs whirlpool spa with water jets to massage tired muscles is perfect for soothing away the tension and cares of the day as the sun slowly disappears behind the palms. Inside, the relaxed atmosphere of the house is accentuated by the 20' Redwood open beam ceiling over the living area. The dining room opens onto a patio surrounded by flowers; a permanent home to a tile mosaic of a mother dolphin frolicking with her baby, a pleasing reminder of the style of art that has brought former owner Robert Lyn Nelson international fame.
On the patio, filtered sunlight sparkles through white lattice work and the foliage of royal palms, creating a peaceful, private retreat for mid-morning breakfast or afternoon sunbathing. The dining room table chairs and bar stools of rattan and bamboo are upholstered in a geometric southwestern print in rose and black with touches of blue and green. The same fabric is used in a vast angled sectional couch in the living room. Deep beige carpeting runs throughout the house, except for the fully equipped kitchen, dining room and bathrooms, which are tiled. The formal front entrance to the house is separated from the living room by a lava rock wall, while strategically placed ornamental plants bring the tropical outdoors into this airy home.
Up the stairs, neatly tucked behind the lava rock entry, are the two guest rooms, each with vaulted beam ceilings and a private deck. On the other side of the living area you will find the master bedroom suite with its sliding glass doors opening invitingly to the pool and hot tub. Above the king size bed, a recessed mirrored ceiling reflects the bright tropical colors of the room. An adjoining master bath contains a spacious tub situated beside a clear glass step-in shower. Both open onto a completely private garden area, a charming courtyard planted with aromatic Pikake bushes. This home is filled with much aloha..
