Hale Ho'ola'i

Welcome to Hale Ho'ola'i it is only 800 feet from the ocean and a short walk to Kapoho's famous tide-pools for swimming and snorkeling. We would like to emphasize that there is no traditional sandy beach right in front of the house. This is a rocky coastline, some experienced swimmers, brave and adventuresome can swim here on a calm day, but the rest of us go to one of the many serene ocean accesses nearby. There's a lovely lagoon within a five-minute walk, and some world-class snorkeling in the tide-pools even closer by. A five minute drive will take you to Ahalnui Beach Park with its amazing 90+ degree geothermally-heated tide-pool. This is a safe and gorgeous place for the whole family.

The custom-built kitchen was designed for gracious-yet-informal living. The kitchen is open to the dining and living areas, yet is kept visually separated from the living area side by the elegant, curved mahogany counter ledge surrounding the range. The kitchen is large, bright, inviting and very user-friendly. There are ample cabinets and the multi-point, dimmer-controlled lighting. There is an ocean view from the kitchen.

The living and dining areas are open and spacious, with high, open-beam ceilings. The french doors opening onto the front lanai minimize the transition from indoors to outdoors, adding to the spacious feeling. The big front ocean-view lanai is well lighted for comfortable dining and evenings outside. There is also a terrific stereo system, a TV, VCR, and Satellite TV.

The bedroom is a beautiful Master Suite with its own large bathroom and even a covered lanai. The master bathroom features an extra-large two-person shower with two shower heads. The covered lanai has a full-perimeter ocean mural, making if feel like you're in your own tropical aquarium. The bedroom itself is actually more like two split-level rooms; one is a dressing room with two large dressers and a big closet with full-mirror sliding doors. A pair of beautifully crafted cedar and mahogany shoji doors open to the master bath. The bed alcove is a step down into an inviting space completely surrounded by windows, allowing the gentle tropical tradewinds to caress you to sleep. From this room you can hear every sound of the ocean, too. There is also a second bedroom with a double bed, and another bathroom with a full tub and shower.

Also available for additional guests will be the large, comfortable, bright and airy, first floor home Lani Kalakeni featuring a complete kitchen, bath and its own private screened lanai. The lanai looks out into a beautiful, green garden with lots of tropical flowers.

We're on the Hilo side, about a 25 minute drive south of Hilo. Kapoho is the sunniest spot on the Windward (Hilo) side of the Island. Normal weather is beautiful all day with the occasional rain-squall to cool things off, and then it often rains at night to keep your garden fresh and green. We also enjoy what is reputed to be the cleanest air on the planet.
